Brain Awareness Week & Bicycles for Plus-Size People

-- Conscious Discussions --

President of Super Sized Cycles, Joan Denizot, shares how plus-sized people now have the opportunity to access bicycles that easily support heavier weight, while providing a comfortable and safe ride - encouraging healthy lifestyles rather than undermining their efforts. Did you know that 1/3 of the US population is obese... and another 1/3 is overweight? Similar numbers can be found for the UK, Australia and Canada. Super Sized Cycles allows bicyclists of all sizes and physical abilities to do their part to improve the environment and save money on commuting while spending time with their family and friends and improve their health.

-- Events this Week --

This week we are celebrating - Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is an international campaign that began in 1996, this week is dedicated to advancing public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research.

Writing and reading are two simple activities that play a large role in brain health. Stretch your mind by reading a book that focuses on a genre you don't usually read - the change alone can challenge the mind to think differently. Alternatively, try evaluating the book by writing mini-reviews (which can range anywhere from one-to-a-dozen sentences in length). You can post these on various bookstores (like Barnesandnobel.com for instance), or join a book club online (like goodreads.com) and share your opinion of the book there.

Journaling is yet another great way of challenging the mind... and it has been proven that journaling can measurably improve one's immune system. Try writing little poems instead and gradually increase the poem's size as you gain comfort in your ability with the pen. Crosswords and puzzle magazines, or those that can be found free online or in newspapers are very challenging for the mind as well. In keeping with this week's Brain Awareness celebrations I've chosen the quote below for today's post...

-- Quote of the Day --

"Like stones, words are laborious and unforgiving, and the fitting of them together, like the fitting of stones, demands great patience and strength of purpose and particular skill."
~ Edmund Morrison
