Conscious Holiday Tips, Authors Read & more!

-- Quote of the Day --

"Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. "

~ King Whitney Jr.

-- Conscious Holiday Tips --

Today, as promised, we continue to offer more conscious holiday tips, ways to green your events and green eco-gifts that benefit the planet and the gift recipient. Consider the following

- Dimmer switches or compact fluorescent bulbs; don’t forget those 3-way CFL bulbs for lamps, the smaller ones for chandeliers and outdoor lighting. The gift recipeint benefits by having a convenient way to reduce energy consumption. Some retailers and power companies continue to offer rebates, so be sure and keep the receipts for these purchases and you might be able to save a little money too!

- For the gardener on your list a subscription to an organic gardening magazine or a membership to a seed organization might be appropriate.

- There are lots of gifts to consider for the nature-lover. If they are handy around the workshop perhaps bird, bat and butterfly house kits, books or patterns. Or buy the premade versions of these instead. Solar heated bird baths, various types of bird feeders, or perhaps a bird feeder station (a pole with places to hang feeders from). A
membership with an environmental group might also be appropriate..

- A home owner might enjoy a composting bin, whereas a condo or apartment dweller would benefit from a three-tier worm bin or one of the many other composting alternatives available for people who do not have access to a yard.

- Alternatively: Tickets to a performance, season tickets to a theater or sport of choice.
