Brenda Shoshanna is our featured guest of the day – Dr. Shoshanna combines the teachings of the East and West along with practical exercises to help people reach beyond paralyzing fear and the heavy weight of dread in their lives. Brenda is the author of many books, and during our discussion this morning she offered information on today's state of fear/anxiety, the dangers behind procrastination, facing fear, ...she defines Reality verses Expectations, and Response verses Reaction... and how to help the youth in our lives deal with the stresses they face.

Today is set aside to honor World Standards Day which aims to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy. According to www.iso.org - "this year’s theme is: Tackling climate change through standards. ...Increasing human activity, increasing greenhouse gas emissions are raising the earth's average temperature and consequences have an impact on climate change. Experts and scientists agree to say that a dramatic climate change would have enormous developmental, economic, social and environmental stresses on our planet."

This makes me think of simple consumer products, like dish-washing machine detergents... standardizing the impact that has on the environment could have a huge effect. For instance here's something I found on the packaging from a President’s Choice Green brand… “The use of regular dishwasher detergent releases 5000 tones of phosphates per year, causing the rapid proliferation of algae in our lakes and rivers, harming fish and other aquatic species.” While choosing dish-washing detergents that are phosphate and chlorine and fragrance free – can make a huge difference toward a safer, healthier planet... imagine the impact this could have if there were no choice, since ALL the products on the shelf follow this standard.

Now tomorrow, Oct 15th, we have Blog Action Day. According to http://blogactionday.change.org "Blog Action Day is an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the aim of sparking a global discussion and driving collective action."

They are calling for bloggers to write about human rights and water issues... which you can see we are doing - but to close today's post, I thought you might enjoy a few links to archived discussions on our radio program that might interest you. We'll be unable to put up a blog post on the 15th due to schedule constraints, so today's post will have to serve as our way of participating in this virtual call to action. :) ...Also I encourage you to pick up a copy of Trash Talk and browse our articles (via our site: www.brummet.ca) to find out more on these issues.
