From Japan for Sustainability (japanfs.org) Fuji Xerox Co has developed a bio-mass plastic using inedible wood-derived and woody cellulose, a plastic that does not interrupt the food chain and utilizes waste from the food and forest industries that are difficult to compost. They are currently in the testing phases for the applications of the newly designed material. But they are saying that because the materials it is made from are so readily available – the new bio-plastic can be made anywhere and therefore can reduce fossil fuel and related emissions from transport.

According to the Recycling Product Newsletter (http://rpn.baumpub.com), Xerox Canada has designed a new program that allows consumers to recycle spent imaging supplies – Xerox is seen as a leader in the industry for sustainability and recycling programs for more than a decade – averaging 5.5 million kilograms of recyclable waste per year. This new program is expected to divert as much as 673 thousand additional kilograms of waste from landfills.
