Of Bags & Books

-- Quote of the Day --

“…The business of books is really taking what you’ve written and making it serious. At the end of the day it is still a business, and it has to have a return on investment. …Make sure that you are marketing to the right people who need your product and services and that your expertise is at the forefront, direct your book into the right hands and to attract a defined target market. Build an enterprise around that book, like any other product; books are a business they are not just these great things that sit on a shelf. The publishing company depends on you to get out there and pound the pavement, because all that brings publicity back to the organization and it also has to materialize back in your pocket. …Time is one resource that you don’t get back; so using your time well is a must. I have an alarm on the computer that goes off every hour so that I know when that alarm goes off it is time to go on to the next project.”

Los Angeles became the largest city in the nation Wednesday to approve a ban on plastic bags at supermarket checkout lines, handing a major victory to clean-water advocates who sought to reduce the amount of trash clogging landfills, the region’s waterways and the ocean."
