Of Media and Animals

-- Quote of the Day --

“…There was a while where I thought I’d never blog – I was a freelance writer, and felt there was no money in blogging. After 9-11 the journalism market really took a hit, but I wanted to keep writing every day – so I thought …I could come up with an endless supply of animal story ideas. …The focus I felt was most important was to highlight the people who are making a difference in the animal world. …I’m in touch with people all the time who are involved with rescue and those, to me, are my heroes. …The first thing is to get your pet from the local animal adoption or rescue center. …The other thing is to spay and neuter your pet. …you can call the local hotel or look in your own closet to see if you have some old towels; or drop into the center and see if you can spend time with the animals – you know, pet some cats. It really does make a difference. ”

Today’s quote originates from the Conscious Discussions Talk Radio episode that aired back on Sept 18th, '12… titled: Animal Advocacy

Buy Nothing Day!
Mon, 26th – Tue, 27th

According to Wikipedia - Buy Nothing Day was started as a protest against consumerism back in '92 and has been picked up by consumers across the planet in growing numbers since then. People will celebrate in different ways - cutting up their credit cards or department store cards, offer and attend free events and activities, etc. Rather than shifting the shopping to another day, this awareness day is meant to help us recognize the shopping frenzy in our society and slow down consumerism.
